Just remember the old adage that you might actually get what you wish for and then you might not like it either. I main motivation is moving to 64-bit GIMP but, if someone doesn't port Mathmap to that platform, then I'll have no choice but to stick with 32-bit version which would be sad. That really is my main beef; so many cool plugins simply won't work for the 64-bit platform. :)

Despite sharing Molly's pessimism about the year ;) the "official" project plan now puts the release readiness date as 18th February 2012:

As you can see in my sig I have it on a separate partition.
I visit this link regularly and when I see some major bug repair I recompile it.
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/
I noticed it still has some quirks I can't put my finger on.
What I like very much is brush rotation.
Gerard.

Edit: Please don't forget this is free software written by people who have jobs and private lives.

I am curious. What exactly are you expecting from version number 2.8 that you don't already have with 2.7.5? All features have been frozen and only a couple of bugs left to iron out?

Note I am just curious and not in any way challenging you. :)

Actually in the official gimp 2.8 will be LESS then in the actual windows build of gimp-2.7 (much less if confronted with the portable version)

i mean less bugs but also less script and plugin and will be no support for python plugin preinstalled
(we are talking of the windows version)

well hopefully partha will compile with same logic also gimp 2.8 but if you refer to the almost official windows build on sourceforge you should expect less not more (of course you may add what you wish but for example many find install support for python a pain, and few believe it a task for rockect scientist )

Is there going to be any change in the way Gimp 2.8 handles text?
