It's a pretty old video by now, but it's a good one.

It looks like a normal hard round brush (they are part of the default set, otherwise you can easily create your own using gimp's brush editor). He's using a tablet, which is why you see fluent variations in hardness as he works.

I see. It seems it's the tablet that is allowing for that brushed "pencil sketch drawing" effect.

GPS has an excellent graphite pencil brush that I use all the time as well as other pencil grades.

I thought you might like to try GPS (Gimp Paint Studio). It's a set of presets for gimp designed with the artist in mind. If you like your Gimp setup the way it is, don't use the rc files. I only copied the brushes and tool options to my Gimp setup. You can download GPS from here.

Did you? That sketching is incredible! Only some kinda professional could draw something like that.

I'm not pro and wouldn't want to be - it would destroy my hobby. I drew that in about 3 minutes, normally for a face, I will work for about 7 or 8 minutes at the drawing stage before starting the painting. Here's a crop of something larger I'm working on.

No way. I don't believe you. I couldn't draw either of those if I spent months on it and took an art class.
