Actually (except for some weirdness with Mathmap Filter Factor (user filter) Convertor since I have to have PSPI), I'm liking 2.8 64-bit more and more. It's yet crashed on me; did go unstable once though, but I was able to controllably close then re-open it (did so from waking from hibernate). I can't tell you how many times (a day sometimes) GIMP 2.6x would lock up on me and it's really fustrating when I was in the middle of an edit. My only guess is that going 64-bit helps with the lock up issue for whatever reason. What I don't like is not being able to directly save png/jpgs anymore, but I can live with that. What I really like about 2.8 64-bit is it's backwards compatibility with 32-bit GIMP plugins. Not even PS allows this (see my post about that here). Oh yeah; one more thing. GIMP 2.8 64-bit launches about 2 to 3 times faster then 2.6x did (and that's not an understatement). :)

Mine's still 2.6.11. I'm afraid that after all the waiting and excitement about 2.8, it still doesn't hold much extra for me.

What is this GIMP 2.8 of which you speak?

Seriously though, when a stable version of GIMP 2.8.x is released, I'll take a look see. Until then, GIMP 2.6.x works fine for me. :hehe

Mistaken in my description (and will edit my thread right after this response) Graechan. I meant to say Filter Factory (user filter) convertor. Anyway, it's more for convenient for me to run PSPI for a few of my plugins Graechan. Don't like the huge delay you get from running shellout and like running EyeCandy 3, Impressionist, and GML Matting plugins inside GIMP. The one's that don't work anymore in PSPI, I do run using shellout of course. If I didn't need PSPI, then the file hack that fixes this issue does work for Filter Factory convertor. :)

Maybe because your 2.8 profile hasn't accumulated as much cruft as the 2.6 one yet? :)

I'm on 2.6.12.
It seems to be more stable than 2.6.11 and I haven't had it hang in situations where 2.6.11 would usually go out to lunch.

I'll wait for a stable release before trying 2.8. The new features sound nice, but for me they aren't worth the potential headaches.

After I added my brushes (2.4 to 2.6) is when 2.6 launch slowed down tremendously. I added my 2.6 directory of brushes to my 2.8 (additional link in the brush settings for 2.8) and no issues at all with launch so I'm pretty sure it's being able to efficiently use more memory (I have 6 gigs) is one of the reasons ofnuts. Again, 2 to 3 times faster launch. Maybe 2.6 64-bit would have been quicker in launching too, but it didn't have support for my favorite GIMP plugins so that install was short-lived. :)

2.6.12 32-bit was more stable w.r.t. to the hanging issue then the previous versions of GIMP, but it still would hand eventually on my PC. :)
