True. I didn't know all that but graphics and docs etc. I'm more than happy with. If I could code, I would probably take Gimp and develop my own version, listening of course to what people want (humble artists like myself included.)

I had heard a rumor a while back that they were going to address iWarp's weaknesses (including the tiny preview Window; believe PC compiled it for a larger Window for 2.6x back in the day too as I recall). Still, there's many ways to skin a cat. What I usually do is make target selections and perform the warp functions when I need to, but the problem occurrs when you need to zoom in. Still, like many of GIMPs issues, I've learned to like them and except the weaknesses along with the strengths and know that the developers address what they can based on priorities and resources. :)

I don't like iwarp at all. It is my least favorite script or plug-in in Gimp in my opinion.
This is how I would like iwarp to work if someone could get a hold of that script, :teeth.

just my two cents.

With that in mind Lyle, I don't know all the ins and outs of development and I wouldn't presume to criticize people who work hard in their spare time to produce free software for us. It's just that I would have different priorities and my expressions of disappointment are never intended as criticism of the developers.

That's an interesting comparison Molly. So far, Gimp does not have a good warping tool and one would be very useful for minor corrections at least.

iwarp is an invaluable tool for me when it comes to fixing geometry errors, such as the poor house in the painting I posted here earlier last week (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4506). I don't know if you can see the slant on that image. If you follow the link to the bigger version, it now points to the corrected image.

It would be nice to see it further developed. It might be fun to try to learn how to make a plugin myself. I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing, but if that stopped anybody then we wouldn't have fire or wheels.

I used Iwarp on my fairy as well. It is an invaluable tool but I'd personally prefer to work directly on the image and that cage tool in 2.8 needs a lot of work before it's useable.

Iwarp sucks i'm so unhappy :( why haven't we fix this? did you know paintdotnet has a better warping tool then that? or why haven't someone made a new one by now? people make a million plugins and scripts a year how does one get made for paintdotnet before gimp?

Such is a failure not on the part of the people working on GIMP, but of those not working on it.

I have know idea how to write scripts or plugins or i would i tried to learn but didn't quit catch on why are you getting so offended? it's not that deep.

Consider how you would feel if someone "ranted" similarly about your artwork: "This drawing sucks. It saddens me to see it posted. The skin tones look like something from Oompa Loompa Land and the trees like they were made out of Lego blocks. I myself have no idea how to paint but did you know that Thomas Kincade doesn't have such problems with his paintings? Why can't you create better art?"

I am not personally offended by your self-described rant (my own contributions to the GIMP project are quite minimal). Nonetheless, I do find it somewhat disagreeable when criticisms of people's creative efforts are expressed in a less than civil manner.

I believe it was Onkel Hatti that compiled a version of the IWARP tool with a bigger preview window.
It worked in Gimp-2.7.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3761&start=20#p46816

Tested in Gimp-2.8 it works!

Usually I just resize the window and hit "Reset" and it works pretty well. I just wish it was a bit easier to control. An undo feature would be very nice... and maybe an option to turn on a grid.
