Seems it isn't possible to open enhanced metafiles in Gimp-2.8.
Does anyone else have this problem?Perhaps it's a bug.

Just tried (created in Irfanview) and you are right. I opened 2.6.12 and it couldn't open the emf file either Rod. Always can use a surrogate such as Irfanview to open the image and save it in another format. :)

Bonjour,

On Windows, Paint opens EMF images without problem.
My version of Gimp 2.6.12 does not open this type of images that come with W7 ...

Yes i have been using Paint to open them or windows image viewer.
Paint does allow me to convert to PNG but i wish it were a one step process of opening the emf in Gimp. :)

EMF or WMF ?

Tests on the WMF format :
- Gimp 2.8.0 Win Sourceforge (32bit & 64bit) open this file type.
- Gimp 2.8.1 (32bit & 64bit) compiles by Partha does not open this file type > file-wmf.exe is not present

That is kind of strange because the GIT version should be complete yet the wmf.c file is missing?
I suppose i could download and install the official sf version steal the file-wmf.exe file and un install it again. :lol
Are the dll files present in the source forge version Sam?
libwmf-3.dll and i think there is another one.

Didn't there used to be a ftp site where you can download just plugins?

@Rod

You can compile wmf.c like a plug-in.
You can also use WMF from compiled versions of SourceForge that should work.

Rod,

Probably I missed compiling it because I was not aware of it. I will include it in the next update. Is that OK with you?

@partha

For me there is no problem. Once the update is done I will create portable versions.

Thanks Sam. I will do that soon. However, July 4th week is coming up and so all bets are off. :)

Yep, just holler at me if you need me to test it. :)
Thanks Partha.

Rod,

Did you mean EMF or WMF? Note that Gimp does not support EMF out-of-the-box, only WMF which is discouraged by Microsoft. Wouldn't you want to use a vector graphics program for EMF?

Thanks,
Partha

WMF files Partha. :)
Inkscape can handle them but i would rather be able to just open them in Gimp itself.

What's funny is when i tried to use the wmf plugin in Gimp-2.8 official install it gave me an error trying to open it.
And it came with Gimp as a default plugin.
It works in Gimp-2.6.12 portable though. :lol

OK WMF is fine. But EMF is not fine. So after the holidays. :)
