It looks like a new Gimp book is on the way, Book of Gimp. It's not listed at Gimp.org, Books about Gimp yet. I found it by accident searching for Gimp related stuff.

I'd never pay $50 for a book on gimp, it changes too often.

It seems quite nice, from the example chapter. I assume it's for gimp 2.8+, but it's not explicitly made clear anywhere. Considering the time it takes to write a book and the time from finishing the text to release I wonder how much it has been updated to the latest gimp version.

It's always better buying from a reseller rather than the publisher, I normally just go to the Library.
Grokking the GIMP (2000) still has useful information.

We don't have a library here, it's a small town. If I buy books I get used ones on Amazon.
