Esper, your a text guy, now that your here and this is a text subject so here goes.
Have you tried using, Colors menu > Info > Border Average... on an image you wish to add text on top of? If not give it a go!
Check your foreground color when you do.

Sorry my bad! It was not related to this thread.
You would use Border Average if you open any normal image and wished to overlay it with text. Border Average take an image color average and automatically adds it to the foreground color. This makes it much easier to find compatible text colors for an image.

Thank you Esper. I wasn't looking under colors. I still don't know what you do with it cuz I tried it and nothing happens.

so you take a colorful picture and run Border Average on it
what you will get is the average color as the foreground color

If you have an image that has border areas of similar color, make a selection of the area with the most color concentration before you run Border Average.

I've tried it on a few photos, and I always seem to get an almost black or a light grey. I never get anything very colorful.

Try what Oden mentioned. Make a selection of a part of you image that you would like your foreground to be and run the script on that selection
