Hello, I'm used to work on Gimp 2.6 with English language. All tutorials are in english.
When I upgraded to Gimp 2.8.4 , it is in Swedish. That irritate me, though I 'm from Sweden
I've been looking in preferences how to switch language but find nothing.
Do you know where I can switch from Swedish to English.
I'm using a new iMac 10.8.2 64 bits .
Thanks.

lurifax73: välkommen till gimp chat! nice to see another swede on here :). i prefer using english in gimp too, the swedish translation of the settings is extremely bad and very confusing.
oh, and if espers screen shot isn't crystal clear to you, here's the swedish work path: "redigera" -> "inställningar" -> "gränssnitt" -> "systemspråk".

Hi Lurifax73. Welcome to GC. I'm glad I wasn't born in Sweden - I can't speak Swedish! :hehe AnMal has taught me some so here goes: Hej Lurifax73, välkommen till gimp chat! :)

So please help the gimp-team by translating. They always need help.

You can also have two GIMPs running at the same time, using different languages. In a terminal, invoke GIMP with something like the following (the -n is required so that a new instance of GIMP is started):
LANG=en_US gimp &
LANG=sv_SE gimp -n &

This can be useful when following tutorials in a foreign language (even one with which you are unfamiliar).

Hello guys, sorry for late reply.
I have try everything, still no languages (Popup Window).
At preference - Interface/gränssnitt I select Interfacebutton but nothing happen. Nothing. On your screnshot there is a scrollbar full of languages. Not on my own.
Why?.
I start to understand why you Swedes have let the country. Here in Stockholm we have 3 meter snow and polarbear walking around.

well you may always use brute force, it always worked when i did :

open gimp folder (that in Program Files if you are using Windows ) look for "share" folder, then inside open "locale"
...and simply move away everything except the en_GB subfolder
(on 7 and Vista you may be asked to confirm because a security lock on all program files ..but is just a additional click

Then gimp will be forced to open in english because has no more other options left
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another option samj prepared some "launcher" to launch gimp with a specific language you may just get that for english see

lurifax73: that's a mystery - but i haven't tried this on 2.8.4 yet, i'm on 2.8.2. and i am on a windows computer too, so the problem might be with the mac build you're using. there are many mac users on here, though, so don't despair, i'm sure one of them will be able to help!

tss tss - inte då! there may be a polar bear in skansen - though we have more of them in orsa björnpark, i'm sure. and what do you mean left the country, im not going anywhere while there's still some lovely snow and ice left :)!

edit: photo comix: you have a point there, but aren't the folders different in mac?

Well in Mac will be not in a place called "Program Files " , but for the rest should be no difference :
In the gimp folder should be a "share" subfolder and inside "locale" with all the language files .

Anyway in case first move away , then load gimp, don't delete the files before check that everything works fine ...

Yes, I open up Finder - Home- Library - Gimpfolder there was plenty of subfolders. (All empty)
I dont find any folder with name " share" subfolder and inside " locale " with all the language files .

When I open up Blender, everything is written in english , when i open up Gimp everything is written in Swedish. ??
Thanks all of you , but no more struggle with Gimp. Sorry.
Bye .

that in "home" is the "user" folder empty as default
It should be also a program folder where are all the program files , no idea how that may be called in Swedish, i may even check on my father MAC but then the directory name will be different because in Italian

photo comix: i think lurifax73 is definitely gone, he/she sounded really PostOfficed. but i think the gimp folders would keep their english names - at least that's how it is for my two mac-user friends and on my windows build.

AnMal, I am not gone. I have good news.

After 50 attempts I finally managed to download a version with Gimp2.8.4 with functioning interface / languages and "ENGLISH".
This time I downloaded Gimp from this site.
http://en.softonic.com/s/os-x-10.8.2-free:mac/7
Maybe a bug somewhere?

Thanks anyhow .

Not really a bug, it's just that GIMP supports about 70 different languages; however, not everyone who compiles GIMP wants to include all of those languages. They may compile GIMP to only support one language, or maybe just a couple -- this can make the GIMP package much smaller.

Hello saulgoode.
I was surprised that only one language ( English ) appeared in the triangle button.

Happy you found a solution

Before see your reply i check on my father MAC, looking with Finder all program files seems to be in "application" ...i see you solved i add just in case others may need this info

And BTW at least now you know where to find your Gimp user folder (that almost empty ) where you may put additional brush, script gradient and so on
