Hi I'm Zak from London, UK. I am creating a comic/graphic novel using Gimp, Sketchup, Blender, Inkscape and Open Office. Gotta love open source software! Mac user. I'm the writer as well as the artist.

I've always been artistic and always loved comics, which I have created since childhood. My favourite genre is science fiction.

Other interests include rock music, martial arts, wrestling and strength building.

I've been using Gimp for a couple of years and though I wouldn't call myself an expert I know my way around it.

I combine scanned drawings with 3D elements to create the finished product. I use Sketchup to create spacecraft, buildings, robots, etc, rendered using Blender, worked
up in Gimp (with a Wacom tablet) with Inkscape for lettering.

It would be great to hear from other comic artists and graphic novelists.

Zak

Looking forward to seeing some of your comics, Zak.

If you are not familiar with them, Blambot fonts have good tips and help for comic artists.

Thanks for the warm welcome and tips.

I don't want to show too much too soon but here's one I made earlier...

Thanks, I still need to work on a few elements.

I create the backgrounds in Sketchup, import the models into Blender, screen dump then add details in Gimp (eg. the trees and grass below). The figures are drawn, scanned and coloured and toned in Gimp, then added as separate layers.
