Hello,

My name is Alan. I am a data analyst working at a local hospital laboratory. I've also worked as a systems analyst at a company that republished general aviation regulations & technical information for the general aviation industry. I used Unix as well as IBM systems, but I've forgotten all I've ever learned about Unix as that was about 15 years ago.

I'm currently 64 years old and have been working with computers since about the time the first Radio Shack TRS-80 computers came out. I work with computers all day and then come home and play on them all night.

I've worked with Paint Shop Pro quite a bit, and a little bit with Photoshop & Photoshop Elements, making email stationery. I recently installed Linux Mint 17 and Gimp. I'm really tired of Windoze and thought I'd try Linux. I installed Gimp since PSP or PS or PSE won't run on Linux. Hopefully I can get proficient with Gimp.

Alan

Hey Alan! Welcome to Gimp Chat. I'm about 500 miles up the coast from you in Oregon.

I was a PSP user before I switched to Linux and I really missed it at first. Gimp and PSP are not a bit alike but I learned image extensions and what an animation was (I had PSP7 with Animation Shop) from it. I knew what an image manipulation program was but not how to do it in Gimp in the beginning.

You'll find a lot of good helpers in here. YEah, I know what it's like to work on computers at your job all day and then come home and go to that desktop. Been there and done that a lot. Now I'm retired and I can spend all day and all night on my computer if I want, or not ... :hehe

If you know you way around computers and have PS experience, gimp is gonna be a cinch. You got a leg up on the majority of the population already as a techie. Welcome to GC.

LOL! Farting dust . . . I love it!

Thanks for the great welcome from all of you. I'm looking forward to learning gimp. I'm already impressed with the graphics I'm seeing in the welcome messages.

Guess I'd better get started.

Thanks again.

Alan
