Hi Rod,

How are you running Gimp without the "you can drop dockable dialogs here" text that normally appear under the tools?

Just being curious here though.

It is there it was cut off in the screen shot i think.

I promised to be back.
Installed samj 's 7zip file in VirtualBox and isolated the "source" files.
These are not the originals:I noticed object files in them.
Fortunately by using "make distclean" one can restore them.
This worked fine for babl and gegl,compiled and installed them no problem.
Then gimp:impossible,a Makefile that was empty,no autogen.sh and no configure.ac.
When you say sources included pls include the complete originals.
