What's new in GIMP 2.10.20

Sat Jun 13, 2020 10:42 am

Nice video, but, I still won't upgrade my 2.10.18 unless one of you convinces me it's both worth it and won't muck up my presets like Bevel Reflect Logo. Not going to be the guinea pig this time. lol

Gimp 2.10.20 is better than a 23 minute rubbish video

I downloaded the new version and didn't lose any of my presets, scripts, plugins, or my mind. I admit, my fingers were crossed the whole time.

You're a braver man than me, Mahvin. lol

I may give it another week and then break down. :)

Gimp 2.10.20 works just fine with BRL, though I'm running Linux and not Windows.

I'm waiting till Portable Apps updates. I'm quite content for now with 2.10.18-2 portable.

@Lyle
BRL seems to work fine with Windows 10 x64

Does anyone run Windows and still can confirm BRL stillworks in 2.10.20? :)

I concur, lyle. I have a more than two hundred scripts and been testing them all. So far, all are working fine. I think this version is the best yet.

I installed 2.10.20 today (Windows 10). I have just been testing a few things that weren’t working in some previous versions.

BRL working
Bump map, bevel working
Picker for fonts etc working
Loaded an old luce.exe (from 2.8) – working

Haven’t found any problems yet

racer-x, is that the appimage version?
I can't figure out how to update 2.10.18 to 2.10.20 on MX Linux.

From what I see, the MX Linux Gimp packages have not been updated yet. see Synaptic screenshot https://i.imgur.com/cT9SnFz.jpg

They come from the mxlinux repos and someone has to compile and package the latest. Not always easy when the Gimp devs keep upping the GEGL and babl minimum requirements. Give them a chance, or ask on the forum.

Want to try the appimage ?
An appimage is just a single file that you run, so download the 2.10.20 version from https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-appimage/releases/ down towards the bottom of the 'Assets'.
It is worth getting the with-plugins version for the extra lib files even if you do not use the incorporated plugins.
https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-ap ... 4.AppImage
Make executable, make a launcher for it (or just run it)
----------
Things that are fixed apart from previous mentions. The Text-Along-Path is now the correct direction.

GIMP_AppImage-release-2.10.20-withplugins-x86_64.AppImage
works well on Ubuntu 20.04. No Gutenprint but all my Scheme scripts
work and G'MIC plugin is awesome
Snap versions are not useable in my opinion.
Ubuntu seems to have given up on GIMP. Debian 10 is still useable
Posting this to prove I am not a robot!

But is this for Linux or Windows. I run Windows as my main host OS (do have a lot of VMs including Ubuntu, but VMs aren't really much good but for browsing). :)

Thank you for the info rich. I'll wait for the MX Linux repos update.

Getting very off topic from Lylejk's original post - Sorry
You are wise to wait, only took 3 days this time to revision 1 of the Windows installer ;)

@david martin
All sorts are possible with the appimage, but it does help if the gutenprint files have been previously installed and working. Copy the required files into the appimage plugins folder. All-in-one screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/fsBk2ph.jpg
This (kubuntu 18.04) Gimp 2.10.20 appimage, scanned with xsane into Gimp, printed with gutenprint (on a wireless printer/scanner) Everything working.

That's the AppImage version. I'm also waiting for the MXlinux updated version as well. I'm curious to see how quickly it gets updated. The AppImage is easy to use and there when I need it in the meantime.

Thanks, Blighty; went ahead and installed it and BRL indeed still works. Haven't tested everything, yet, but BRL and G'MIC work so I'm happy about that. Very much like the hover to see the subsets of the presets feature in 2.10.20 (should have done that as soon as they changed GIMP this way in the first place). Thanks again to the developers; looks like 2.10.20 is a winner. :)
