Are fonts taking longer to load in this release?

Normally see that happen whenever I load a new font, but it seems to be happening all the time now.

I noticed this as well. Takes longer on my Windows platform now. Not sure about Linux or Mac OSX.

It may be because I only have 3 additional fonts (dedicated GIMP only that is) but it's not fonts that delays my GIMP launch; it's the userfilter. I do have quite a lot of presets though, so it's understandable. Still, within a 40 seconds, GIMP is usable. :)

I have a whole lot of filters (Gimp and PS), quite a few fonts and a machine that runs slow. Mine takes about 2 minutes to load (1:59 timed), but it's a delay I tolerate. My First computers were Commodores! Now they were slow!

I got a PC tuneup utility from Windows Giveaway and ran that. It messed up one program and I had to reinstall it. Then I tried running Gimp which took over 3 minutes to start. The next time I tried to start Gimp it ran in 1:20 which is a 39 second improvement.

I have 3,2 ghz Dual Core, 4GB DDR3, 1GB Nvidia 450 machine from 2010 Running Win7 64bit
And another 2,66 ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR2, onboard graphics using same plugins, Xubuntu 32bit

Linux Gimp loads in 20 seconds, Windows takes 38 seconds.
Inkscape loves Linux too. Apply pixel effects on Windows Inkscape to image and zoom fast with scroll wheel, not fun.

I do have a Linux machine, but my wife is using it. I have programs that will only run on Windoze, so I primarily use the Windoze machine.

That is my exact issue also Greg. =) I have too many commercial windows programs that will only run on windows or MAC OSX. So i stick with windows until it blows up again.

GIMP-2.8.22 takes 3 minutes to load and no problems with PSPI. All my installed 8bf's are working fine.

I have not noticed any Mac users in this thread, but just to make a note of it, 2.8.22 seems quite stable here.
The first time it took about 50 sec. to load, after that, only about 5-6 sec. normally.
I have well over 100+ fonts available here on my 2.7GHz iMac, w/El Cap. (10.11.6).

I seldom get Gmic to function (or even to show up) with most of the Gimp versions I have, but that's an on-going struggle for me, and it seems that Gmic is only 'sometimes' included within the build.
Being a non-power user, I don't miss it too much, but I do like playing with it when it is available.

I'm pretty much just an avid lurker around here and I am sad to see that 'uploading of files' problem for you good folks but, I will bet it has something to do with security.
Many of the other forums that cater to 'open source' Apps. (Inscape, etc. etc. etc.) get pounded daily with spam and all manner of garbage and it's damn shame.
I miss seeing all the latest innovations users upload here and hope that Omega can get a grip on this phpBBS, once and for all.

How do you have Gmic installed as I can get it to work nearly every time, I also have been able to get NikTools to work with 2.8.22 as well.
My system is 2.7Ghz iMac running MacOS Sierra 10.26.6

If you use Partha's builds of MacGimp, it will have GMic included.

Partha just compiled newer versions with G'MIC-2.0.3 added.

The problem with Partha's version is that it has missing functions like the Brightness & Contrast controls (CCE version (which was there in the prev release))
and the Standard version crashes as soon as you try to use the resize tool.

This version of Gimp freezes and crashes a lot on Windows 10. I may be switching to earlier version.

I have Windows 10 and Gimp 2.8.22. it never freezes nor crashes.
Maybe there is an installation/system problem, try renaming your user/.gimp-2.8 folder to let it start creating a new one then - if gimp works well - moving the contents (your addons) subset by subset.
