I use both....2.6 has so many brushes, fonts, and scripts and plug ins that I occasionally use but don't want to clutter up mcgimp...so would it work to rename gimp.app (the 2.6 one in applications) or would that mess up the workings.

I don't know anything about the 2.6 version. Sorry 2-ton. :(

You can try to do that and see what happens?

BTW: Moving brushes, fonts, and scripts, is not a problem. If you have plug-ins, they will not work.

Sorry I'm not about to help much but I do drop in every day if I can...and will help mac users where I can also...Just have a heavy work load as well at the moment. But I do find time to use GIMP almost every day.

you mean I can make a folder of brushes from 2.6 and put the folder into mcgimp? What do you name the folder? I have always just taken individual brushes and moved them over one by one because I thought a folder of brushes inside the brushes folder would have to be pointed to in preferences in some way. Meanwhile, I like keeping my 2.6 as a backup, so I will just have to keep mcgimp on the desktop for now. I also have it on my dock, so it's easy to access.

I mean copy all of your brushes from GIMP 2.6 over to the brushes folder in MCGimp....follow the same path as you did to add them to GIMP 2.6 and you will find GIMP 2.8 and put them in the 2.8 brushes folder...same for gradients, scripts, palettes, patterns...worked for me I dont see why it wouldnt for you...I also copied some of my favorite fonts into the font folder in the same place.

I can do that! That is, when I make some time to mess around. More questions...what about plug ins? Can I copy them over to mcgimp? I was thinking I would have to have py's made especially for 2.8 and/or mcgimp. And where do I look in my mac to see if I have a 32 bit or 64 bit system?

py files you can put them straight into your local plug-in folder ~/Library/Application Support/Gimp-2.8/plug-ins if I remember correctly.

Don't worry about 32-bit or 64-bit system. You have a 64-bit system since you are running McGimp. It does not work on a 32-bit system.

That is cool to know, Partha...I have looked all over my macbook stats and could not find out about the 64 bits anywhere!!! And yes, you remember correctly as to where the plug in folder is, lol.

just put up a picture in the 'fav flower pics' thread...happy to say that the new McGimp behaved perfectly, G'mic included. Lists were in alpha order and of course, some of the filter windows still hide but when in single window mode they always have part of them peeking out the side so it's easy to click them to the top. The alpha listings are a great improvement, kudos to Partha for fixing that.
