Man; was hoping they would just release 2.10x. Will check it out as soon as they push a Win 64-bit version. :)

Yup; downloaded and installed around an hour ago. Works great; no bugs that I can tell. Not sure if it's better or worse then 2.8.14, but looks like the mode bar works now (was using a hacked fix; don't believe I am now since the installer should have overwritten all previous DLLs). :)

Is there any kind of changelog from between 2.8.14 and 2.8.16 ?
I can't find one anywhere, the release notes seems to only have some kind of "what's new in 2.8" in comparison with 2.6.x
As i don't run into any bugs in my usage of 2.8.14 , i'm a bit cautious with upgrading, after some past gimp releases that added new bugs.

The article mention that they're going to focus on releasing a 2.9.x , i hope this means it will become more usable than it is on the various 2.9.x floating around

But , 20 years of Gimp ?
Wow, didn't thought there was so many years now.

I'm sticking with Gimp 2.8.10. I see no reason to update it on my 3 yr old HP that runs windows 7 that uses 64bit.

it's just Gimp reinstalling 2.8.16 over where your installed 2.8.10. AFAIK the standard directory is GIMP2 and not 2.8.10...

This is just a small inconvenience for a 32 bit (the installer so imposed).
I've never had a directory Gimp 2.8.10 only Gimp 2. :yes
For 64-bit does not have this problem :hehe

I am getting this error from python scripts including the console py. There are some plugins failed to load due to zlib1.dll which may be related to another program which has the same named dll installed in system32. Uninstall and reinstall seems fixed the problem.

Plug-in crashed: "python-console.py"
(C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\python-console.py)

GIMP definitely does not like identical dll files in its path. :)

I came a'hunting help for info regarding:
'Plug-in crashed: "python-console.py"'

found out about n.n.16, and quick-did a apt-get update and a apt-get install gimp (in ubuntu) which did find and install a new version

AFTER which firing-up of, I got piles of strange-oid complaints (seen by starting gimp in a terminal window), similar to:
(gimp:10445): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: gimp: gimp_wire_read(): error
Terminating plug-in: '[myhomedir]/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/[apluginname].zip'
Querying plug-in: '[myhomedir]/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/[apluginname].py'
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "[myhomedir]/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/[apluginname].py", line 36, in <module>
from gimpfu import *
ImportError: No module named gimpfu

Really. "No Module Named GIMPFU." (That's kind of drastic.)

So I went lookin for where it might be, and as I had been lookin in:
/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/
I decided to look there first with a:
find . -iname \*gimpfu\*

I didn't have to look far; the python/ subdirectory (where gimpfu resides) had access (x) permission turned off for others. GAMEOVER.

I (re)set its perms to same as the others:
755
and did the same for its .py* programs.

I'm not saying I knew what I was doing, but I did it, and the missing gimpfu error went away and the missing Files->Python-fu menu item showed up.
(Trying to open a Python console in my earlier 2.8 subversion had always crashed, which is what led me on this merry quest for a witch's broomstick.)

@gramp Assuming You did not do something to alter the directory permissions in the first place, that sounds like a packager error, and should be reported to the Ubuntu team (or to ppa owner depending on where it came from).

The only themes that come with GIMP are the "Default" and "Small" themes.

So what theme have you selected in your preferences? that would a least give us something to start Googling for ;)

Thank you. Now I understand. I suspect you need to ask the question of prokoudine.

That's not a Gimp theme. It's a Linux Mate GTK theme. I've used it before. Though it's not an actual named theme that you can download anywhere. If I recall, you need to create your own custom Mate theme from the "Appearance Preference" menu, and this orange / dark grey combo should be the default setting:

https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/re-creating-the-classical-ubuntu-orange-theme/3062/4

If you use Windows or Mac then it's a no go. Maybe it's possible to convert the GTK theme to a Gimp theme, but I'm not knowledgable in that.

I found a similar theme under Appearance. It's called Mint X Orange. I'm using Mint 17.3 xfce.
