Where does gmic for Krita go? I have Krita but I'm not sure where Gmic goes within my windows folders.

You can put it anywhere. I don't use Krita, but I would probably put it in the user folder on Windows.
1. First download the proper krita plugin from the G’Mic website.
2. Then, unzip and place it somewhere you can find it.
3. Go to Settings ‣ Configure Krita ‣ G’Mic plugin and set G’MIC to the filepath there.
4. Then restart Krita.

Thank you. :) I'm still not sure where the gmic plug in goes though.

I have it here:

and the new one is here in the downloads. where does the new version go? I tried adding it the first time around and I couldn't get it to work.

As I said I don't use Krita so I'm guessing, but I can't see why it would differ from the way you can use it with Gimp.
Just for convenience, I would never keep anything in the Downloads folder, except temporarily.
How did you install it earlier if you have it?

Much changed internally with gmic_gimp 2.5.x

The version that comes with the samj 2.10.9 is a 2.5_pre. It could be that if you are using a 'fave' or some earlier setting the filter syntax has changed. (or it might just be a bug). Try staring with a fresh gmic_gimp_qt.

Checklist:

Replace the existing ...Preferences/plug-ins/gmic_gimp_qt/ folder with the latest. https://i.imgur.com/6W9qE1Z.jpg

Gmic_gimp same as Gimp has a user profile, in the samj portable it is in the folder GMIC_Filters. Rename to disable it. Running gmic_gimp will create a new empty one. https://i.imgur.com/S1ZLlA6.jpg

Run gmic_gimp and with an internet connection, make sure it is updated. There are 516 filters (the film emulation section has gone and moved into the colors section) Anything that uses a color-lookup-table (CLUT) will download the CLUT initially, so you do need an internet connection for the download. Colors -> Color Presets -> PictureFX for example.

Should work. https://i.imgur.com/Wzim9dw.jpg

I do not have the version "eval" indicated on the blog of samj here:
https://samjcreations.blogspot.com/2019/03/
but this one:
Image
but which is displayed:
Image
so I do not know if I must first delete my version to put the last of samj ??

On the other hand, I deleted my favorites but the error message is still there if I click on "about".
I have 516 filters.
I'm going to put back the old G'Mic I saved, meanwhile. ;)

The thing with Krita's version of gmic, there's no way to know what files to replace and what to keep because all of Krita's gmic files are in the bin folder. This is the second time I've tried to install it and I can't get to work. Then I have to uninstall and re install Krita in order for it to work.

The error I get is this:

Seems bit messy. Just like earlier with Gimp, back when it was common to dump all the additional plug-in dlls in the plugin folder resulting in similar errors.
I'd probably reinstall Krita and make sure not to put any of the Gmic files in the bin folder in future, and keep them somewhere else.
Unless you tried it already and it's something else. Hope you'll get it soon fixed.

I reinstalled Krita and it works. When I open Krita to see where gmic is pointed to, it points to the bin folder. That's where it throws me off. What files go where within the bin folder? The version in Krita is 2.4.2.. not the recent version which is 2.5.2. I think what the developers should have done was incorporate the recent version of gmic into Krita when they came out with the updated version of the program.

This is where gmic is pointed within Krita version 4.1.7:

Excellent! Thanks for letting us know about the new version. :) Works great in G.I.M.P. version 64 bit Windows 10. Windows still doesn't like to install it though. I still use the zipped version and delete the old files from the qt folder. Windows defender doesn't like to allow the install either. I was also able to install my old licorice theme in 2.10. So that makes me pretty happy. :bigthup

Now i'm off to read the change log.

@ rich2005, in the "Readme" file of my gimp samj:
G'MIC-QT-GIMP (32 and 64 bit) version 2.4.2-pre compiled on November 14, 2018 (so not 2.5)
so should I do what you indicate?

Edit:
Is it possible to save faves so you do not have to put them back 1 by 1?

In Gimp-2.10.8_Port \ GMIC_Filters \ gmic, there is a file "gmic_qt_faves.json". So maybe copy it and paste it into the new G'MIC?

It really depends on if you want some of the extra filters that come with gmic_gimp 2.5 for example that Stylize filter Some details here: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/release-of-gmic-2-5/9413

It might be that the version you are using is more than enough for your requirements. Out of the 500-something filters I use maybe 3 or 4 ;)

You can do that, It is a text file that holds the settings. Depending on the filter some might not work because the menu structure is changed.

For example: This is samj and an old gmic with two faves. Bokeh and PictureFX. The PictureFX filters are in the Film emulation section.

Image

Moving the gmic_qt_faves.json file into the gimp_gmic 2.5.2 location. The Bokeh will work but the fave PictureFX throws up an error because the Film emulation section has been consolidated into other sections.
