Samj has released another portable version of GIMP 2.99. This is a the developmental version for those who want to see what is coming. Info can be found at:

I have briefly tried the 64 bit version and no problems so far. It includes a 32 bit version, but there appears to be problems with that version.

These releases are great, I use the 32bit and have a crash when I click "Preferences", otherwise seems to work fine.

...And that's great, why? Sorry, but I'm sooo over "Windows". All kidding aside, Gimp 2.99 is just an experimental version and crashes are expected.....

Which, roughly translated is, Win 32 bit version is screwed.

The problem with 32 bit is the maximum ram that can be used is 4Gb.
64 bit can address a theoretical limit of 16 Exabytes.
Gimp is ram dependent (if not using OpenCL which I have never used) so a 32 bit user is limited in how many layers and/or windows are open at once.

I'm currently rendering a 3060 layer Gimp image at 1600 X 900px and the real issue I have is a power outage during the 24 or 36 hour render time.
Then I would have to start again.
