I went ahead and downloaded the latest git version bugfixes and built new versions for both Windows 32 and 64. You can get these versions from my website www.partha.com. You can read about it there.

I updated the Useful Plugins sets to these versions. In particular, G'MIC has been updated to version 1.5.1.6.

Big Thanks to Rod and Samj for beta testing this version!! :jumpclap I really appreciate it.

Partha

@partha,
Please tell me where I can d/l the sources for Gimp-2.8.1.
I have browsed your site and tried some of the links but couldn't find it.
All I could find was 2.9.1.
Thanks in advance,
Gerard.

i don't know if it's related to 2.8.1 or if is a problem with Samj portable version only , as i always only use the portable one.

When i start the program with "Start_Gimp_In_English.bat" , there's the loading screen with "querying new plugins" that load one by one everything in gimp.
Not a problem when it's the 1st time i start this portable version as it's natural that it search everything.

But the problem is that it will do that at every launches.

While when i was using the portable version of 2.7.6 that was on Partha website, it was loading one by one everything only the 1st time i launched, every other launches it didn't do that (unless i added a new plugin manually), making Gimp loading a very lot faster.

It's not a "big problem" obviously, but just reporting in case it's not intended to be like this in 2.8.1.

You are tempting me big time Partha. lol

I'll give the developers a little more time to do an official 2.8.1 (because I don't want to mess up my current setup and don't want to install an addition 60 plus megabytes of files on my HD). :)

Nicely done Partha. :)
Did Sam set up a portable version for Gimp-2.8.1 then?

Bonjour,

@Brogun
The slowness problem already existed with version 2.8.0
Nevertheless I think the version proposed by Partha works well.

@Rod
The portable versions 32 and 64 bits are made (64-bit version only since this morning).
Partha should make them available on its website.

Gerard, I will package up my sources and put them on my site. Will that help? My version includes the git babl/gegl and gimp versions as of June 23.

Let me know how you would like to proceed.

Thanks,
Partha

This is definitely an issue. Thanks for reporting. We will look into it.

Kyle,

You can put the portable version on a USB stick and won't have to mess with your system. :)

@samj Does this fix the Font issue in the x64bit windows portable?

I don't believe it does. Did you happen to file a bug report?

Thanks,
Partha

That's cool Partha. Again, I didn't want to do a huge download/install but am thinking about un-installing my 2.8 and installing your compile, but will give the powers that be a little more time before doing so. It's just that, other then the few wacky issues, 2.8's been working extremely stable on my system. Only crashed once and it never locked up like 2.6x had since I upgraded to Windows 7. Still, maybe portable would be a good way to segway; I used your portable version during the 2.7 days and even still occasionally run the RGGJAN compile for the rare occasion requiring an extraction. :)

I don't understand the bug reporting process for unofficial versions.
I am also uncertain of the way forward apart from waiting for a subsequent release. :?

Regards

You go to the following website: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/

There you follow the instructions. You will have to setup an account. Then you choose Gimp as the product and you should be able to either add to an existing bug (the system will ask you to consider searching) or start a new bug. This is the only way to get the developers to know that there is a possible bug.

Hope this helps?

Thanks,
Partha
