Tested your portable version win32 bit in Windows Vista 32 bit.
I got some errors Partha.

Image

Most have to do with the libstdc++-6.dll file.

Gimp-2.8.6 does start and run fine after i close that no-disc error twice.

The McGimp version works fine, so far no issues. Can't wait to play with the new G'MIC goodies.

Somehow, my uploads totally screwed up. I am sorry about this. Would you be kind enough to download again and let me know if it works?

Thanks!

For fun I did a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
The 32-bit plug-ins running on the 64-bit portable version.
This release includes a large number of plug-ins ...
This version requires a 64-bit Windows environment.
To install you need to unpack in the root of a hard drive or USB key.
Do not unpack into a directory with accented characters or contain spaces.

Download :
http://www.aljacom.com/~gmic/gimp-2.8.6 ... rtable.zip
(198 501 171 bytes)

To start Gimp in the language of your computer click \gimp-2.8.6_Partha_64-32bits_Portable\GIMP.exe

That's very cool Sylvie!!

Merci,
Partha

Hey Rod,

Thanks for testing again! :)

But, now we are in weird territory. I uploaded new versions and have received reports that it's all working fine.

Can you email me the exact errors? I assume this is the 32-bit portable version?

Thanks,
Partha

I had Partha 2.8.1 installed and uninstalled it through windows program files , installed new 2.8.6 (both were 64bit) .
Install worked fine and seemed to run good .
I was working on a old Xcf image and started working on it , all was good till I wanted to save . tried save, save as , export etc and got a error saying the path of image didn't have permission .

I rebooted and think that is ok but have another issue with file association , by accident I linked xcf to another program .
So i try the Open-with option . browse to gimp dir, pick gimp2.8.exe but it does not link it . It doesn't add gimp to list .
I don't see file association options in gimp .

Anyone know whats wrong , never had this problem before .

Edit: I think I fixed it .
I was trying to add the gimp-2.8.exe and I guess for some reason it doesn't like it but linking the gimp.exe worked and seems to run with it ok . not sure what the difference between them .

Yes i am using the 32bit portable build. :)
I will email the screenshots for you. Basically they are the same as above though. Just the 2 dll files now though.
3 errors and then it starts fine.
No G'MIC, or Davids Batch Processor.

Hi Ed,

There is no difference between gimp.exe and gimp-2.8.exe. gime.exe is there because on a Linux system (or Unix/Mac in general), you can softlink a file to another. Since there is no such thing as softlink on windows, gimp.exe is created as a copy of gimp-2.8.exe. So, you should not have any difficulty linking to gimp-2.8.exe or gimp.exe.

My guess is that in the past you associated gimp-2.8.exe (from 2.8.1) with your graphics/image files and those associations are still in your registry. So, remove all the old associations from the registry and you will be able to link to gimp-2.8.exe again.

Let me know if this does not work for you.

Thanks,
Partha

Hi Partha .
I think I found all issues and will post .

The first one with file permission to saved was fixed by setting the gimp-2.8.exe to administration under properties , that fixed that .

Now with file associations , I ran Ccleaner and found old enteries to app open command with 2.8.1 .
so I uninstalled 2.8.6 and cleared all gimp entries to be sure .

then reinstalled and that cleared up problem of adding the gimp-2.8.exe to file association .

So all fixed now I think .

haven't put it through its paces (I use gimp now for photo work mainly masks, layers ,sharpening etc ).
will try few thing . I just tried to load few filters and GMIC and all seems to work .

One thing maybe you know . I use Rawtherapee as my Raw convertor as I like all options . I using version 4.0.11.8 .
They have option to open with gimp the image and seems like I get runtime error when I set path to gimp folder . I used to have this working with 2.6 but that was on XP and older Rawtherapee version . I think problem on there side but if you do use it does it work for you ?

Edit: since I see Ulraw in your gimp installer I guess you use that, so no biggy .
