Installing python into gimp problem

Sun Dec 11, 2011 9:53 am

GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
Python

So I was following this guide viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2277 on how to install pytho into Gimp and I have followed it through restarting each time and am at the stage on re-installing Gimp.

When I go to the customise part and get to the dialogue to select python it is greyed out and I can't select it. Any idea what I have done wrong?

Jamie990, when you tried to install Gimp 2.6.11, did this box come up while you were installing?

If so, did you click where it said customize? If so, that box shouldn't have been grayed out. If it still is there then there must be some other problem that someone here will probably be able to help you solve

Wouldn't that assume that you already have installed Python (and not Gimp's python support) on your computer?

What version of Python? If it's the newest you may have to try an previous version of Python. I had problems with Python 2.7.2 and Gimp 2.6.11 in Windows Vista.

Try going to filters > Render > clouds > fog. Do you have fog? If you do, then you have Python installed.

@jamie
if is grayed out some component is missed (or too old or too new)

Maybe is quicker just get gimp-2.7.4 portable that include python and seems sufficently stable

I suggest the portable if you want preserve 2.6

Anyway the problem should be one or more missed library i can't guess which
