Partha Build Missing Python-fu

I've been using GIMP for a while however I dislike having to install a lot of plugins so I decided to use the Partha build which comes with the plugins I use. I installed it however it's missing the Python-fu menu item under Filters and it's also missing the help browser.

I know this is specific to the Partha build because when I went uninstall partha's build and reinstalled regular gimp the python-fu menu item was back and I could view help within GIMP.

Has anyone had this trouble before and now of a solution?

I have McGimp 2.8 and my python-fu console is there near the bottom of the filters list.

I'm on a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Sorry but I don't think Mac builds will be helpful.

effykingly for the help issue I'd suggest switching to the external help browser instead of the 'Gimp Help Browser' in your help preferences,as for why it has no python do you have a python Folder here↓

Note! these folders and files will slightly differ from yours
but your portable should have a python folder

Okay so I'll have to use the web browser for help and yes I have a python folder. I'm using the installation not the portable version of GIMP 2.8.6 32-bit version. I know I have the Windows 7 64-bit version however I've used the GIMP 2.8.6 64-bit version with the same issues- no gimp help browser and no python-fu so I thought to switch over to the 32-bit version as I find 32-bit versions tend to work better.

As Graechan said, please use the Gimp manual from docs.gimp.org. Building the help browser is a pain.

Python can be finicky animals. Btw, you don't need the 32-bit Gimp since you have a 64-bit machine and my 64-bit builds have 64-bit Python incorporated.

Please do the following:

1. Open a commandline window.
2. Assuming you installed Gimp at C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.8\, please type in the commandline Window:

Code:

cd C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.8\bin
.\Gimp-2.8 --verbose > C:\Users\[yourloginname]\gimp-run-2.8.log 2>&1


Now you can shut down Gimp or open an image or something.

After you shut down Gimp, send me the gimp-run-2.8.log file that was generated.

Sorry for the long copy and paste but I've couldn't attach the gimp-run-2.8.log file since .log is not allowed and I tried copying and renaming it to .txt but that's not allowed either. When it ran GIMP I saw the Python-fu menu item however when I exited and started it over again it disappeared. Am I going to need to type in the code everything I want to use GIMP?

It appears that you are using GIMP for the first time. GIMP will now create a folder named 'C:\Users\HP\.gimp-2.8' and copy some files to it.

Regularly for me is clicking the shortcut icon GIMP created in my start menu when it installed. It just means not typing all the code Partha gave me and just going to the start menu.

Ok, Right click that Gimp icon in the Start Menu then choose properties.
Check that the 'Start In' points to the same folder the 'code' is using. If not set it to point to 'C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.8\bin'

Edit: When Gimp starts check what entries you have in the 'folders' -> 'plugins' section in the Preferences, which is accessed via the 'Edit' menu.

I too have Partha's x64bit Gimp, and I recall after the install finding entries from a previous gimp install in various folder locations including the plugins folder paths. Removing those old entries resolved my issues.

The first boot is slow.

In this version, there are small changes to run Python.

It is not necessary to uninstall other versions of Gimp.

To remove this version, just delete the directory : C:\gimp-2.8.6_Partha_64-32bits_Portable

To test Python : Filters > Python-Fu > Console

I think I see your problem... When you run Gimp via Partha's 'code', your are pointing to program files, in the screenshots you posted you have the 'start in' and in your plugins folder your are pointing to the program (x86) files. One is the 32 bit version, one is the 64 bit.

effykingly, I don't know why you have the desktop shortcut pointing to the 32-bit version of Gimp when you are running the 64-bit build.

If you didn't uninstall the 32-bit version from the Control panel, please delete the 32-bit folder as well as any shortcuts on the desktop and clean out the registry. Easier to reinstall the 32-bit Gimp and then use the Control panel to uninstall it.

Now install the 64-bit version and you are good to go.

Please let me know if this is not clear or if it does not work for you.

Partha, I uninstall the 32-bit version, making sure the folder was deleted, ran CCleaner, and reinstalled the 64-bit version under Program Files (x86).

Python-fu showed up but it wasn't working since none of my .py plugins worked and I know they do because I used the same version of regular GIMP.

Thank you so much everyone for your help but this has been too much of a hassle for me I'm going to stick to the regular GIMP as I know that one works for me with both python-fu and help browser and I'll just find out which dlls and exes I need to move from Partha's build to get the same plugins in regular GIMP.
