Hey I need help with Installing the Python support for GIMP, I am at custom selection and the box to install the Python Part won't check...
I followed the Tutorial exactly and it still doesn't work :gaah

Skipped a step... I feel like a moron

Uhm... I got it installed and now I can't find Python-Fu in Filters Menu...

When GIMP Starts up it loads the Python Scripts even D:, just the Python-Fu isn't there....

Just restarted and it still isn't there...

But anyway, thanks for the tutorial gonna try now.

Doesn't bother me at all Willy. If I was perfect, you all wouldn't even know me since I would be a billionaire with 30 concubines living off some exotic island having fun all day, but alas, I'm both dumb and broke, so you all are stuck with me. lol

mmkay, glad to know that, any chance you know how to help me get Python-Fu to work? Would I have to install something for Python-Fu to recognize?

When you were at the point where you were re-installing GIMP, did you happen to see the python option? If so and you checked the box, then Python-fu will be located under you Filters dialogue box

You play with GIMP for a decade and you will collect cool stuff too Willy. Not sure how to address your issue. Since you checked the option when you were installing GIMP that implies that the installer detected that Python was indeed installed on your machine. Not sure if you actually rebooted your computer afterwards, but I would give that a try then open GIMP up. Hope you do get it to work since there are a lot of cool python filters for GIMP out there. :)

That's where my Python is installed Willy; believe that was the default and I left it that way. :)

So did I... Could you post what is in that folder?
Mmkay then... can you post a pic of your Python folder in GIMP>Lib>GIMP>2.0>Python? Something tells me I am missing something there or something else... Any tips would be greatly Appreciated

I am using Vista if that matters

All my python plugins I put in my .gimp-2.6/plugins folder under my user account. If you are using XP, it will be located under Documents and Settings/{user account}/.gimp-2.6/plugins. There is no subfolder for python in my GIMP 2.6 or in my user account folder for gimp. When you installed GIMP, it finds the links to Python. Again, you need to put your Python plugins in your GIMP's plugins folder and they will be located in all sorts of places like plugins usually all (not under a python drop menu). :)

On my Windows 7 machine, I had to stick my .py files in my plugins folder. Most of them just appeared in with all of the other filters, and never specified python. There were one or two that appeared in a separate python folder after I started adding more and more filters. Later I will get on my Win machine and have more info as to which ones showed up separately.

I have easily over 100 added filters in my Filters drop down on my Windows machine!

Well, it isn't that I don't have the plug-ins there... it is that I don't even have the option to use them :(

Just to be clear, restarting the computer is rebooting. Restarting the gimp program is not.

I learned how to install the Python stuff from GIMPtricks and a DeviantArt post.

http://gimptricks.deviantart.com/art/In ... -155766287

It was very simple and very easy to follow, and has everything you need in one ZIP folder. Do as she says and read the instructions before doing anything.

Download the file and instructions by clicking the "Download File" link on the right. I've Favorited and commented there, and if you have a DA account, you might do the same. It's a good download. (Sorry if I'm not supposed to make links to things like that!)

Is there a way to split all the Python help posts from the slinky posts? I'm not familiar with phpBB...
