I want to stretch out rectangles and squares and get odd shapes like in the image below. It seems like the Perspective tool should do that but when I click Transform the rectangle returns to its original shape? I'm not sure what keywords to use to find guidance on this? Does anyone know how to change the shape?

Add Alpha Channel, increase the canvas size.

I see how to use the Perspective tool to get an odd shape, but then it insists that we click on "Transform" (because Help/Reset/Cancel make no sense). As soon as I do that it reverts to a rectangle? How did you get your yellow shape to remain in that form?

I just clicked on transform.
Your problem is likely that you start with a square WITHOUT space around it.

my square is PART of the image (Odin said: increase the canvas size, same idea)

dinasset: thank you so much! That is exactly the problem. I didn't understand why Odinbc was telling me to use the alpha channel but now it's clear. You are both great to be so helpful and I appreciate your time and willingness to share your knowledge.

If you want to create shapes filled with some unifom color, you don't need the perspective tool, just use the freehand selector in polygon mode (i.e, click on the 4 corners).
