Rectangular selection suddenly behaves as if Ctrl was held down

Mon Oct 07, 2019 5:30 am

GIMP Version: 2.10.8
Operating System: Linux
GIMP Experience: New User

Suddenly the Rectangular selection tool started to behave as i Ctrl was pressed while it is not. It should just make the rectangle with one corner where the mouse cursor was when the left mouse button was pressed and the opposite corner where the mouse cursor currently is. But instead it makes the rectangle with the center where the mouse cursor was when the left mouse button was pressed. Also dragging the sides of the seletion behaves as if Ctrl was pressed. This is of course very annoying. I have even restarted the computer but GIMP still behaves strangely. Any help?

By default Gimp saves previous tool options on exit.

Do you have "Expand from Center" checked in tool-options? If so un-check it.

You can always go to Edit -> Preferences and reset the tools as https://i.imgur.com/V9xr5NQ.jpg

Thank you rich2005! I opened the toolbox with Ctrl+B and the options by doubleclicking on the rectangular selection tool. There I could un-check the option.
