Hello,
I'd love to create a set of high resolution fonts from scanned artwork.
There's nothing out there I can find that does this.
Before I give up and just write text out by hand, does anyone have any ideas
about GIMP and bitmap fonts.
Thanks

I have an idea:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14045It is simple and easy way to use your own bitmap fonts.
There's also expansion for it called "custom text on path". Which, like the name suggests can place your font on path.
If you need to work on the scans themselves, like clean, resize etc. that's another thing.
You could post one of them and describe more in detail what you want.

Thanks, this looks promising I'll give it a go and let you know.

Working wonderfully so far! Custom_Font_Layers_From_Fonts_V0-07.zip [4.47 KiB] That converts any font to a set of layers names correctly for "custom_font.scm" Like it was planned.
I'll try swapping the layers with scanned artwork and post an example. Will take a while.

To make your fonts in the easiest manner I suggest that you check with Skinnyhouse as he has written an entire collection of scripts to make fonts. He further expanded the work done by the earliest developers of the fonts. He is a member of both GimpChat and GimpLearn as many are.

What would be really cool would be to have the option of duplicating a particular letter layer...
d.png
d.png copy
d.png copy #1
d.png copy #2
Up to "n" times in the font source, then if the Custom Font Tool could randomly* use one of the layers then that would be beautiful.
*maybe not the same choice twice in a row
