Viewing GIMP tutorials

Tue Dec 10, 2019 10:10 am

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Windows 7
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

My esteemed listmates,

I try to watch a YouTube instruction video with VLC Media Player on Windows 7.
I’ve uploaded what I see.

The video content appears so tiny it’s hardly watchable.

Is there any feature in VLC to enlarge the content so it’s clear and viewable?

The same seems to be true of GIMP instructional videos shared on this forum.

I’m told these videos appear easily viewable by the video creator but not when I try to watch them in VLC.

I’d like to learn more of GIMP features but they appear difficult to view (even at 200%) in VLC Media Player and Avidemux 2.7 for Windows.

Thank you for your kind help.

Check the video's Codec,
to see what resolution the video is that you downloaded.

If you downloaded the video from GC is will be very small.
GC Videos default size,
when adding a video to a post is 425x350.

You would need to download the video form it's original file source.

Do not know what your PDF is meant to show. It could be that the video is an old one with frame size 640 x 480 pix a common size. As well as VLC as Wallace shows, Avidemux will give details, and for any particular frame, save in a variety of formats.

For Viewing online Get / copy the youtube URL from the GC display. Then

1. Right click, choose Open Media then,
2. Choose Open Network
3. Paste in the URL
4. Play

For downloading youtube videos, what do you use? There are sometimes options for size, be aware of what you choose. This example using ClipGrab

Hi Wallace,

Thank you for sharing Windows Key and tapping the Printscrn button for screenshots. I tried that in Windows 7 watching a video in VLC Media Player but it didn't take a screenshot. Does that only work in W10?

To take a screenshot or capture a fream in VLC.
The Hot Keys are:
Hold-Shift + Tap "s" key.

In Windows 10.
The WIndows Key + PRTSC Key
Should produce a screenshot,
of whatever is on your desktop at the time the keys are pressed.

If you did not change the default location of your user Pictures folder,
the path/location to the default Screenshots folder is:
"C:\Users\your_name\Pictures\Screenshots,"
Where "your_name" is the name of the user account,
that you use to log into Windows.

There's also the Windows Magnifier.
Which is part of the Windows Ease Of Access features.

Hi, I'm still stuck trying to download GIMP videos. I tried VLC Media Player but once I paste the url into Open Network Stream and then paste it into Please Enter network URL and hit play nothing happens.

I downloaded Video download helper for FF into add-ons but how do you make that add on pop up and start downloading? With Ant, there's a Download Now button on the FF toolbar you just click (but it just downloads 640x size).

I also downloaded the FF add on Easy You Tube Video Downloader and I'm supposed to see some Green Button displaying Download Now but that never appears.

Anybody use the Brave browser? I don;t use IE nor The Edge and Chrome seems to report your every key stroke.

Not sure how I can watch Gimp tutorials which appear so small because the YT downloader is downloads them too small size.

Solution?

Thank you!

You can download HD content using Video Download Helper, but if it says ADP you need to install the companion application.

This online downloader works for me always:

Hi nd...,

I'm a little confused by your post.

Did you include a direct link to the FF add on Video Helper?

Once it's downloaded, how do you "activate it"?

Ant appears right on the toolbar prompting your to Download.

Thank you for your help.

Add-ons are normally activated once you install them.

Code:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

The Companion App needs to be installed separately.
I'm not using it so I can't say, but every time I've tried to download a HD clip that says ADP in front using VDH
there's a prompt saying Companion App needed to download the video.

You can install it via the VideoDownloadHelper button in the right upper corner.
Click it, and then click the settings gear.

Click Install Companion App.

After I download Video Download Helper, I see in Add Ons the Gear but there is no Companion App in the drop down menu when I click the Gear icon. That screen you posted I never see.

Could anyone who uses Video Download Helper or any YouTube downloader besides Ant, please share the step by steps they currently actually use to download You Tube videos.

Otherwise, I will not be able to view Wallace's generous GIMP tutorials he shared as they download only in 640x and can't be seen as needed.

I've also downloaded the Brave browser - has anyone downloaded a video using that?

Thank you for your help.

Didn't I offer to get the video to you?
