Colorizing

Hey everyone, I am trying to colorize a photo, the method i have been using worked up until a few moments ago and now i am lost.

pick color > new layer > foreground color > add layer mask > black transparency > eraser

but now its not working... any clues on how to fix

You can add a blank layer above you picture and set Blending Mode to "HSL Color", then paint away.

Thank you, this is working perfectly.. Still wish I could figure out why the other way stopped working

Usually its white reveals and black conceals.
Never heard of using the eraser to paint on a layermask.

it was working fine, but now its not working i even did an update to see if that would fix the issue. the previous comments solution worked, but i will have to play with it to get use to it
