active preview window and tools

Wed Jan 15, 2020 12:50 pm

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Linux
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

When selecting from say colour/level or other tool and the tools dialogue opens, the image window then dulls into background as it is no longer the active window. So when you make an adjustment, have to keep mouse clicking back and forth to see 'real' effect. Is there a way to prevent this and keep image as should be and not semi-transparent with the desktop image showing through each time you click the tool?

Which linux distro?

It might be the Desktop Manager you are using. I can not reproduce a dimmed inactive Gimp Main window in my regular Kubuntu 18.04 / Gimp 2.10.14 - KDE is too well behaved. (well, I can but not in this context ;) )

...but I can get this in my netbook running Xubuntu / Gimp 2.8 The inactive window set to a low transparency, as shown in the inset.

Just a thought.

See if some setting in "Edit>Preferences>Interface>Window Management>Windows manager hints>Hints for docks and toolbox" improves things.
