alpha to selection

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User



hi guys. I am very new to GIMP.
I am trying to draw one big circle in layer 1,and 2 small circles in layer 2.
then i used command alpha to selection in layer 3 .but its not working.
i know iam doing something wrong here but i need help

What is in the 3rd layer? If there are no objects in the 3rd layer, nothing will be selected.

I guess you want to add to selection? You can't do that on the 3rd empty layer.

Switch to your first layer, and use alpha to selection.

Switch to the 2nd layer, and use add to selection.

Now you may use the combined selection on the 3rd layer if you wish.
