Scan in and extract URLs using GIMP

Hi All,

Hope you're doing well.

I have a Canon scanner.
I have an 8 1/2 x 11 paper with a list of instructional  URLs printed on that paper.
I wish to scan in that paper and then extract each URL into my browser one by one.
I used the OCR function and saved that scan as an RTF but when I opened that RTF file in Libre Writer it opens the file as a graphic so I can NOT extract each url in that OCR'd file.
Is there any way to extract each OCR'd url using GIMP? Thank you.

I'm not aware of any way to extract text form images within Gimp and convert the information to use in the text editor.

There is a free online OCR service that I have used a few times that might be useful or helpful for at least getting the text out of the image:

https://www.newocr.com/

You could then paste that result result into Libre.

I believe Irfanview has a plugin to do this (free image browser and the plugin's free too). Not sure how good it is, though. :)

You should really find why the RTF (which means Rich Text Format) is opened as an image. maybe you can use something else to open it (WordPad or even Notepad may open RTF files, and they don't know how to handle images).

Hi Wallace, lylejk, of nuts and neurolurker,

I used the OCR option in the Presto Manager so it's unclear why it prompts me to save in the . Rtf format but once saved opens as a graphic in LW. I'll try opening it in WordPad and Notepad. I have Irfanview installed but rarely use it as GIMP seems to do so much more. I'll investigate re: it's plug-in and use.

Since you didn't say anything, I guess it didn't work. Oh, well, I suppose I was right that it was a trolling trick. It did sound too good to be true. :)

I used a friend's Abby Fine Reader and that scanned in and saved.
