Cropping

Thu Oct 22, 2020 4:03 pm

GIMP Version: 2.10
Operating System: Mac OS
OS Version: Moojave
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hello,
When I crop an image (let's say "one tree" out of a forest),
when I export, I get only a picture of the "one tree" which is what I want. But the export grows the tree much larger than the original tree.

What do I need to do to stop this enlarging?
I just want the tree to be the same size as the original picture.

Thank you. :paint

I would say File > New will give you the same size canvas as the one you have open. Just paste your selection into it and scale the new layer up or down as you like. Then 'Merge down'.

I would use the selection tool (not the crop tool) and after selecting the right crop, go to the menu 'Image' and choose 'Crop to selection'. It should be in the original resolution.

Either that or after selecting - cut & paste as a new image...Should also keep the same size. Dont forget to export this as a png to keep the transparency around the image.
