Hello, I'm new...
I have a problem ... of course, and when I use the Gimp paintbrush with Gimp 2.10 it uses two different shades of the same color as I try to color. I'm not sure if this is a layer issue. But I went to undo and I did not see anything to do with layers there. And its a GIMP XCF file and I was sure not to export it to JPG. Can someone help with this?
Thanks.

Also, the top layer , the brush is not working at all and it just shows a circle with a line through it. I remember running into this problem before but last time I waited it out. Anyone have another option?

If you haven't had this problem before try resetting
![Reset/Default :reset](./images/smilies/DefaultReset.png)
incase you clicked on something to change your settings.
For the colour issue I would check in your dynamics that you don't have 'colour from gradient' selected.
By the way. the brush will only work on the selected layer.

Thank you. I'll try that. I already downloaded and older version of GIMP, though. But it would be nice to be able to use the newer version.
