I have around 6 images (PNG) which I would like pack as a single brush pack for GIMP in .gbr format. I am not sure how a single .gbr file could hold multiple individual brushes. The last time I tried, all 4 images were acting together as stamp. It would nice if I can get help packing these PNGs as a GIMP brush pack. Thanks.

try saving your brush as a .gih not a gbr.
The gimp brush in the download gimp has a gih brush. I'll paste it here shortly
This is one brush with 4 pictures.
I don't know how to make them, Never tried.

I'll see if I can find a tutorial for you
Here is one using an older gimp but it shouldn't be too much different.

Thanks for the effort. I think there is a bit difference from what I was trying.
one brushpack file > add to .config/~ folder > Inside GIMP, they acts as 4 different brushes / number of brushes the brush pack can hold.
If that is possible, do let me know :grateful:

A gih brush is an animated brush, that cycles through the individual stamps.
I guess what OP is looking for, is a way to combine several different brushes into one file, like an .abr brush.
Afaik, you can only make abr files with Photoshop. Gimp can open/use this filetype, but not create.
The closest would be using an addon manager, that temporarily installs brushes from a folder.

Thanks for the input. Looks like it is not possible at the moment. I will give it a rest for now. Unless there is some workaround.

Gimp supports Photoshop brushes. Maybe you can use that format (I forget what it is)

Konstantin is correct. The closest you are going to get in achieving "abr" brush packs in GIMP is saving them into one folder and using an Add-On Manager plugin to keep them activated and deactivated. It's not a seriously complicated process, just needs additional steps to achieve. Many of us GIMPers use this manager to keep the upload times to a minimum and reduce the number of brushes displaying in the dialog.

Thanks all . I was thinking about a scenario where I might distribute a brush pack. Thought a single package would be possible. As for personal use, I am quite ok with the clutter

Put your brushes into a zip file. Then you can use an add-on manager to activate and de-activate the brushes. The add-on manager will treat the zip file like a folder. It's also easy to distribute them that way.

Ah! I thought the abr was 'animated'

Adobe Photoshop Brush = .abr

Gimp can read .abr brushes, but only some information (stamp and Spacing).
In PS a brush also stores dynamics and multibrush stamps.
The dynamics get lost when you open the PS brush in Gimp, because it uses a different dynamics engine.
Brushtip, Dynamics and Tool Presets are three different files in Gimp - in PS its all-in-one.
Both systems have their pros and cons (Gimp is more modular).
For example, sometimes abr files are huuuge and contain many files. Having a 200MB .abr file, when you are only interested in one brush, is not nice.
In that case i use a program called abrMate to unpack the abr brush and export only the individual stamps i like, as pngs, which i then convert into Gimp brushes.
