Fill with pattern seamless

Mon Feb 22, 2021 1:03 pm

GIMP Version: 2.10.23sam
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

:wvy Some patterns are much more beautiful when I apply them with Edit / Fill with pattern seamless. But to get the look of these transformed patterns without having to click on Edit / Fill with pattern seamless each time, how do I proceed?
Is it possible to transform several patterns at once and thus save them.

I think I may have explained myself poorly, so I'm starting over. ;)
If I apply with the Bucket Fill tool this texture:

I get this:
Image
If I do Edit / Fill with pattern seamless I get this:
Image
so I would like to know if there is a possibility of knowing what will be the effect obtained with Edit / Fillwith pattern seamless without having to use the tool for each pattern to find the effect that I would like.

If i remember correctly, "Fill with pattern seamless" is a function of Resynthesizer.
It uses an algorithm to create organic looking patterns.
Usually you apply Resynthesizer for impainting or filling holes.

There is no way too see the outcome before its applied. What you can do is apply the pattern to a smaller canvas, so that processing time is reduced.

Very much same thoughts as Konstantin.
Resynthesizer is a plugin to create those seamless tiles and comes with its own 'quirks', there is an element of randomness built in.

However, I modified that Fill with pattern seamless plugin to resynthesize the small pattern to a larger canvas (400 x 400) and make it seamless. Unzip attached file, Put it in your User Profile plug-ins folder.

Looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/bv4wqWh.mp4 Remember to export to another folder to save the original.

For batch then use BIMP Find that modified as 'Another Gimp procedure' Add the pattern name as Clipboard Image Add the files and output location. Not very quick but gets there.

edit: silly me, forgot the attachment ;)

Works better with small original patterns than large ones.

Thank you Konstantin and rich2005 :)

I saw this indication to use Edit / Fill with seamless pattern in this Davies tutorial ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpsEoWrkWjI)
One of GIMP's biggest secrets is that you can create seamless, realistic patterns using the default patterns that come with the program. Of course, when using these patterns with the bucket fill tool they look horrible - showing very noticeable tile seams and looking nothing like what they're supposed to based on the pattern names. However, there's a hidden filter that blends your patterns and fills in your composition or selection areas, making your seamless texture patterns look far more convincing!
and he gives additional indications in the video but I only understand 0.5% of what he says. Too bad he does not do pdf tutorials ...°)
rich2005, I will study your answer. :)

Yes, that is a 64 bit version, the Windows installer from the originator is 32 bit (more universal)

...worth looking at the web page for examples. https://alessandrofrancesconi.it/projects/bimp/

Question: How many of these patterns to you want to 'scramble' ?

rich2005, I'll start with a hundred ... to test. ;)

Ouch... A demo of what to look out for. https://youtu.be/RMG9XxLopio 4' 30'' Using samj Gimp and 64 bit BIMP and about 50 patterns,

The procedure is very-very slow depending on original image size(s). Start and go have a cup of coffee or two is my advice.

edit:
Language problem: Clipboard Image = Image du presse-papiers

that needs adjusting in the plugin-resynth-fill-pattern-mod.py file; Modified version attached

and in BIMP the 'other gimp procedure looks like this.

rich2005, I just did what you indicate in your video but certainly there is something that I missed because it blocks whether it is with Gimp en or Gimp fr, when I get to your video at 2 ' 24 here (screenshot below) :

Image

I started by creating a pattern folder containing only 5 images, named "pattern" like yours. When I indicate the folder, the images are grayed out:

I also tried with "single image" and:

And one question: Why indicate "Clipboard Image" at the start of the process with Bimp?

That looks to me that (1) You are using the English version of Gimp (BIMP & message is in English) and (2) the French version of python-fu-fill-pattern-resynth-mod

Use a matching pair, all French or all English

Also it does not matter where the pattern files are, Use the BIMP Add Images button.

Then depending if you are using the English Gimp + en plugin and in BIMP use Clipboard Image (note the capitals)
or
French Gimp + fr plugin Use Image du presse-papiers look at the earlier screenshot.

but if you can not get it to work, not a problem maybe someone has a more automated way.

rich2005,I'm going to watch this but I'm summarizing what I've been doing since this morning:

When I posted the message # 11, I had tested with the Gimp_EN and the EN plugin because now I open the Gimp_EN.exe more often (because I find more explanations on the sites in English) . The files in the selected folder being greyed out, I closed Gimp, I deleted the plugin in and replaced it with the FR plugin to try with the Gimp FR. Found the same problem of files grayed out in step 2 ' 24, so there I tried with "Add single images" and I had the message shown above because indeed I had put "Clipboard Image" and not "Image du presse-papiers".

Now I just started over with the Gimp_EN and EN plugin and same problem for "Add folders" ... but for "Add single images", it works. :)
so I will see if your video shows how to continue with this option.
