Hello everyone.
There is an option to rotate the view 90 degrees CW and CCW, 15 degrees CW and CCW, as well as 180 degrees. Also, there is an option to invoke an "arbitrary rotation menu", where you can choose any angle you want to rotate the view with.
Is it possible to add new rotational angles somehow? I'm asking for 5 or even 1 degree rotation, CW and CCW respectively.
The reason I ask is that I have a tablet with the dial, which you can turn, and it will zoom-in or zoom-out the image for you, as well as it can rotate it.
Edit: i.e. I need to assign those 1 or 5 degree turns to the hotkeys. I.e. ctrl+[ and ctrl+].
Are there any plugins for that? Or some options I can tweak in order to gain that functionality? So far exhaustive googling didn't yield any result in that regard.
Thank you.

Is this option in reference to the rotate tool?
There is this I found in GIMP Doc...https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-laye ... trary.html

Well, I mentioned this tool in my post, and it's not what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for adding two more options for rotation next to already existing options of 15, 90, 180 degrees.

The rotate tool
works in .10 degree increments

The second guy who mentioned it despite me mentioning it in the original post.
Yes, it does rotate even in the tiniest of increments. Now tell me how to assign 0.10% CW and CCW rotation to the hotkeys using this tool (or not).

Oops just saw you mentioned rotate VIEW.

Well yes, I saw that menu and ofc tried to make it work. But I didn't see there an option to assign rotation to the hotkeys.
I.e. turn 1 degree CCW is assigned to ctrl+[
and turn 1 degree CW is assigned to ctrl+].

Here is something mentioned by one of our members (rich)
[For anyone interested
The shortcuts are held in your Gimp user profile the file menurc
It is a text file but not the most readable. With a little editing and sorting to make it more readable you can make a list with your current setup.]
You can see if you can make anything of it. You may even be able do do this yourself by adding something in the Gimp code but I can't help with that.

Thank you! Will try to do that.

That is View -> Rotate.
Came in with Gimp 2.10 and is in the shortcuts, As it says, rotates what you see but does not alter the image. You can assign a key to bring up the dialogue.
- rotate.jpg (72.09 KiB) Viewed 1572 times
Do not confuse with the Tools -> Rotate which rotates the image (and moves the pixels about). A shortcut can bring up that dialogue
Unfortunately, View-> Rotate is an internal operation and AFAIK not scriptable. A plugin would enable some menu options to be added.
Bottom line. You would have to ask the Gimp developers for an enhancement.

Thank you for your reply, but the popping-up dialogue is definitely not something I need when I turn the wheel on my tablet. Obviously.
And yes, looks like I need to ask developers for an enhancement.

Well Shift-Middle Mouse button will rotate the view as you drag the mouse, but difficult to limit to small/even increments
..and Shift-Ctrl-Middle Mouse Button rotates in 15 deg increments - too large for your requirement.
Try a Shift-Alt-Middle Mouse button, seems to use smaller angles (or it might be my eyesight
)

Not as far as I know in the factory Gimp. And plugins, by design, cannot tweak the UI.
This said with the mouse it is much faster to use Shift-MiddleButton-Drag to tilt the canvas to any angle, so if your pen can emulate the middle button this could be a batter solution.

Looks like the only solution for now. And yes - the tablet has additional 8 buttons so it can emulate that. Pity, but whatever - we have what we have now.
Will ask devs later on in the git about this feature.
