[SOLVED] Gimp Will Not Draw Continuous Line (?)

GIMP refuses to draw a continuous line with any tool; it always draws a series of dots, with the size and density of course dependent on the particular tool (airbrush, pencil, eraser, etc.) I've had this problem for a little while; I've let it go over a couple of iterations of the GIMP, as well as a couple of re-installs, hoping whatever condition it is would clear itself, but it's obvious that something weird and persistent is going on. Please assist. Thanks.

Here is a first guess: The brush spacing is too large. Set it down to about 10%.
