Fixing droopy eye on photo

Sat Jul 15, 2023 8:45 pm

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Mac OS
GIMP Experience: New User

Hey there everyone, I have this photo of myself that I really like, but my left eye is drooping due to an accident I had a couple days before. Anyways, I've tried to fix it using Gimp, but technology is not my strong suit lol. I'd really appreciate help from someone who actually knows what they're doing :) thank you all!!!

I enlarged the original image by 400%. Oval-selected the right eye, copied it to a second layer, horizontally reversed the second layer, moved the second layer into place, fuzzy erased as much as possible. Reduced the image to the original size. Exported the whole image.

I think the redux version would be acceptable for what I imagine you'll use it for, but I've no idea how you may feel about seeing yourself like this when you know it's been altered. From my own experience as an image consumer, I don't think most people would give the redux a second thought. They simply accept what's there.

This is my attempt.
I copied the right side of the face.
Pasted it into a new layer and positioned the eye where needed.
Then I applied a layer mask to this new layer.
Painting black onto the layer mask with white selected as full opacity.
Masking the outer area surrounding the eye.
Leaving only the right eye in place of the droopy left eye.
