Strange Issue When Right-clicking in Gimp

Tue Oct 10, 2023 10:20 pm

GIMP Version: 2.10.34
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Windows 10
GIMP Experience: Experienced User

Ok, there's a strange issue I have been having in Gimp. It's been happening for a while.
Whenever I right click on something in Gimp, like a layer or a tool most often the menu that is supposed to pop up won't pop up. I see half an outline of the menu with nothing else in that menu. It pops up outline only with nothing to click on and goes away in a split second. I have to right click and hold down on the right mouse button for the damn menu to show up proper and try to get what I want from it while holding down the right mouse button. Right clicking once and getting the menu to pop up without any problems only happens like once or twice out of several tries. It's not my mouse. It works just fine right clicking in other programs.

How do I get it to stop doing this?

Let's try something got to C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\ and rename the folder "2.10" by "2.10.bak", restart GIMP (GIMP will generate a new profile, thus all your preferences will be reset, noworries they are still in "2.10.bak")

Is the problem solved? if so it's something in your profile

If the problem is not solved, delete the new "2.10" folder and rename the one you've named "2.10.bak" by its original name "2.10"

I'll give it a try.

Didn't work.

Update: I found a way around it by using Shift+F10. It pulls up the context menu's seen when you right click, depending on where your cursor is. It works and I don't have to worry about holding down the right mouse button to keep the context menu open.

Strange issue indeed.
There could be some kind of system or window issue,
which is sometimes difficult to figure out.
If you haven't already,
I would suggest running some sort of
"windows maintenance"
with a system restart to see if this has any effect.

Not recently. My system has always been running the dark theme.
However, I don't see why that would cause this issue.

Do you have an Nvidia GPU with Shadowplay enabled, or overlay? If so, try disabling shadowplay or overlay.
GIMP and shadowplay are often a problem when people cannot click or select or whatnot
Many example here > https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Can-t ... yers-fixed
As well as on reddit in r/GIMP many people resolved similar problem

No. I don't have a Nvidia GPU or Shadowplay. I have AMD, and I don't know of any equivalent program to Shadowplay on AMD's side. I'm not sure what the issue is exactly. Sometimes Gimp acts up with this issue, and other times a right click works fine.

Screen recorders, desktop "enhancers" can also cause this kind of problems.

I don't think I have any programs like that.
