Okey so I've been having a hard time finding a graphics program that has a good scissors tool. I ended up with GIMP.
What I need to do is basically remove the backgrounds around a lot of pixelated pictures as the one included in this post. I thought I could easily select the scissor tool and just select around the edges to get it removed and that would be that, but it's apparently nowhere near that easy.
As far as I've understood, the scissors tool is supposed to lend itself to pictures where there's a high contrast around the edges, so one would think the tool is ideal for pictures such as this one. However, it won't even remotely behave the way I want it to. If I click on the left side of the image, the scissor tool creates a point IN THE MIDDLE of the image and begins cutting from there, what gives? Is there no way I can "turn off" the smart selection of the scissor tool and instead just cut freehand? Can someone try using the scissor tool on this image and see if it works or if I've just completely misunderstood something.
I also tried free select tool which again isn't really ideal because gimp is vector based and it's much easier if it would behave 'pixelated' as the picture is.
Any advice? My apologies if I simply haven't searched long enough for a clue. I looked at a bunch of tutorials on how to use the scissor tools and nobody adressed the problems I am having.
Edit: I tried using the scissor tool on some other images and they worked just fine. But this one in particular really does not wish to cooperate, I do not know why.
Edit 2: The fuzzy selection tool helped a bit with this picture but I'd still like to know why the scissor tools won't work.
