GURM is short for Gimp Unified Resource Manager.
It basically will add gradient, brush, palette, script, and pattern resources to Gimp while its opened. This keeps Gimps load time down to a minimum.
The files that normally cause Gimp to load slow are BRUSHES and PATTERNS.These are the biggest usually.
Scripts, gradients, and palettes usually load very quickly without GURM.
Plug-ins load slow also but are not resourced through GURM as the plug-ins HAVE to be initialized after install. That is they have to have a Gimp restart which kind of makes the GURM program useless for Plug-ins.

I use GURM and it greatly enhances the load speed of Gimp just by NOT loading patterns and Brushes at startup.
I load everything else normally.
