Hello fellow Gimpers! I am having a frustrating issue with Gimp. I, for some reason, thought that you could download Photoshop patterns (.pat) and they would work automatically with Gimp. I've been reading up on it and apparently I was wrong. :gaah

Is there a plugin that I can use so that Gimp recognizes the .pat files? Or do I have to do it the tedious way and open the pattern and save it as a .png/.jpeg/etc. and then save it as a patterns?

Thanks!

There is a plugin at the registry that automatically detects photoshop .pat files and makes them useable for GIMP. Read the comments; Sylvie (samj) compiled the program for Windows users of 64-bit GIMP and schumaml for 32-bit GIMP users (which I am) which is cool. :)

So, I need the plug-in at the registry and the ps pat binary for Windows by eric.lamarque? What is this ps pat binary, anyway? And I have a 64-bit computer.

They are both the same plug-in. I was just showing some examples for you to gather a little more information by.
Just download the plug-in and place it in your UserName/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins folder and you will be all set.
You should be able to then drag and drop the pat file onto Gimps image window or toolbox and the pat file will open in layers. :)

Even if you have a 64-bit computer, you may be using 32-bit GIMP (which I am; I run Win7 64-bit OS by the way). I do so by choice since so many old plugins won't work in 64-bit GIMP. Not sure how GIMP 2.8 (will be released in a few weeks) is going to handle old plugins but I am going to take the plunge and go all 64-bit GIMP (which means I will keep my old GIMP 2.6 available because of plugings and I do hope eventually all the cool plugins that I have get ported to 2.8 64-bit). :)
