Post subject:  column date "MODIFIED" shown as "UNKNOWN"

GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

I'm currently working on a laptop Windows 8.1 64bits Gimp 2.8.14
(at home I have a desktop Windows 7 32bits Gimp 2.8.14)
When I want to open image files from a folder, the name of each image file is shown, as well as the dimension, but the "last update date" (Modified column) always says "Unknown", while at home I always have that date displayed.
Even after I have manipulated an image using Gimp and stored it on the folder, still the date remains "unknown".
Any hint?
Is there a possibility to interact with the "open function" of Gimp with some setting?
Thanks

That is strange are they both NTFS file system or is one FAT? Actually the fact they use different time values shouldn't matter. Is it only affecting XCF files?

thanks Odin.
No, it happens with all files and folders.
In general images are jpg, and part of the images were transferred from my home PC.
But also with xcf created here and saved I get that "Unknown" attribute on the date.

edit: when browsed thru the standard Windows folder browse, both types of images (the transferred ones and the newly created ones) are displayed in the list with the correct date and time attribute

Try one copy and one move of an affected files to another folder and see what happens.
What about the NTFS and FAT question?

Have you opened the image file with another program to see if there is a time stamp displayed for that image?

Check Gimp properties, I'm sure it's the same.

This could have something to do with the Gimp profile on that machine, but I'm not 100% sure about that?

Are the dates displaying correctly in the Windows file explorer?

Checked the Properties, tried to setup "Compatibility with Windows 7" and also "Run as Administrator", but no change, date is still "Unknown", so reset both to defaults
Is there any other "Property" to v erify?

it seems to be the Gimp "File->Open" function which is in trouble

performed a complete scan of this PC: no malware
still the same problem
I guess I will reinstall GIMP

reinstalled, but no change
even removed (renamed) my User/.gimp-2.8 folder, to access a "clean" Gimp without any additional plug-in/script: no success, that column always show "Unknown"
I will give up...

@Diego:
I notice you've got your system set to Italian, but Gimp set to English.
Try setting Gimp to Italian just in case there is a problem with date/time formatting.

I'm curious whether some guru is able to "read" inside the module used by Gimp to browse the folders in order to perform the "open" function, to understand what kind of dates it expects (Jonathan, I did also the opposite try, following a suggestion of a dear friend of mine: set system region to English(US) and Gimp the same (either explicitely to use English(US) language or using the system setup modified to English(US): no change!).
Wouldn't it be possible for Gimp (like for any other image processing SW) to use the Windows Explorer (as an option)?
Has this problem maybe to do with 64bits or Windows 8.1? (at home I have 32bits and Windows 7, and it has no problems)

Are you asking how to add Edit with Gimp to the right click menu in windows explorer?

The "Open Image" dialog in Gimp is basically just a standard GTK file-chooser dialog.
Have you tried opening files in any other GTK-based applications such as InkScape ? If not, perhaps you could do so.
It could be a compatibility problem between GTK and Windows 8.

(And no, I don't think it would not really be possible for Gimp to use the Windows Explorer; those applications which do use Window Explorer to manage files are generally Windows-specific; Gimp is a cross-platform app and relies upon the lower-level software such as GTK to adapt to the specific platform being used; getting it to use the Windows Explorer dialog when running on Windows platforms would require a lot of work and goes against the grain of cross-platform policy.)
