Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to GIMP, and not a design person, just a tech support guy willing to help his daughter. :hehe

Can someone help me to recreate this effect?

Btw would be very cool if we had tutorials about the creation of this forum banners, they're really awesome!

Thanks for any help.

If the bird is part of the background layer, just erase part of the letter on the top layer that covers the part of the bird that you want coming out of the letters.

I used the image as an example, my idea is to compose something with both techniques. Like letters with a see through effect, maybe with some blur as border or even that rounded 3D effect (don't know how to call it), and my daughter's Minecraft's skin coming out like that bird. I think that's the idea. :) Too much for a wannabe Gimp artist? :hehe

Do you have the images that you are going to use? If you post them, we might be able to see what effect you are going for?

Hello and welcome to Gimp Chat havilson :) :)
Most of us here who have created banners at one time or another did after we had learned different things and combined them together.
There is a thread here viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4742&hilit=Banners that will give you the size and some rules for creating a banner. When you have one done you are asked to post the result as an xcf as well as the png. So if you want you may be able to download some xcf's and see how they were made.

Thanks sallyanne! :)

Pat625, I actually have no images yet, but I was thinking in use Minecrafter Alt font, some image captured from the game (and use it for the see through text effect) and my daughter's game skin waving to people, here comes the out of bound effect. That would be, as a result, my daughter's youtube channel banner. :geek

Here's a game captured image to show how it looks like:
