GIMP Version: 2.8.14 Operating System: Windows GIMP Experience: New User When we type a letter in Gimp, it's surrounded by a dotted line and I don't see how to enlarge that line? So when I try to outline text, the dotted line gets in the way and messes up the effect? What to do?

Try Layer to Image size. |

You can do this by going to, Layer > Layer to Image Size.  |

In addition to what OdinBC has said, right click the layer in question, then select Layer to Image Size. Ninja'ed by Wallace (you can do that, too!)
