Hi All,

I'm making the switch from PaintShop Pro to Gimp...

One of my newbie questions:

When I open a .jpg file, make a selection, press delete, I'm getting a solid white color where I removed the part of the .jpg...

What do I do to get a transparent background instead of the solid white when I delete the selection?...(in Psp I would just right click on the background layer & choose Promote Background Layer) & that would give me the required transparency...

Many Thanks

Before you delete, Right-Click on the layer in question and select "Add Alpha Channel", then delete. You can go into the settings and make Gimp always add an Alpha Channel on imported images. This is what I've done, no idea why it's not the default...
