Incase this happens to me again can someone explain what went wrong here please.
I cut something out of a coloured photo and pasted it into a similar coloured photo. All jpgs. RGB mode (photos look like they were probably taken with the same camera on the same day) When I pasted as layer the original cut layer onto another photo it turned greyscale.
This has never happened to me before. - why would it. Did I press the wrong thing or what?

Was the destination image greyscale? Anything pasted in, then becomes greyscale.

If that is the case, change that destination image to RGB Image -> Mode -> RGB before pasting in the cut layer.

Thanks for answering. No it wasn't a greyscale image rich, both RGB and jpgs.
I did the same thing again and it worked like it should have this time. I must have clicked on the wrong thing instead of 'paste as layer'.

As I said in my original post the photos were of the same origin.
Like someone had taken a few of their children's sports day but didn't get the children together. So they wanted them moved together.

Hey sallyanne.
That's an odd one for sure.
Could be a temporary settings configuration glitch,
in your User Profile,
but It's difficult to pinpoint exactly why this happened.
Often times,
just a simple restart of Gimp.
Can help fix these kind of issues.

Weird thing was though I didn't restart my Gimp before it worked again.
