GIMP Version: 2.10.12 Operating System: Windows OS Version: win 10 GIMP Experience: New User Hi I am very new to gimp, but i do enjoy working with gimp. I am not happy with my computers performace when running gimp, and working on a big projekt. The experince is a little slow and slogish. When i for an example move a layer it feels really not not smooth, and adding a big effect is really slow. So i took a look at my hardware (Very old gameing PC), and startet thinking maybe i have a too few RAM, a bottelneck in my system when we a talking about working in gimp. Specs: MB1151 Asus Z170 Pro Gameing (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170- ... fications/) Intel Core i5-6600K DDR4-3200 8GB Corsair Vengance XMP RAM * 2 Case Vision X2 Silent Black kabinet Drev Asus DRW-24F DVD burner SSD Samsung 850 EVO 1000GB (SSD) CPUK Thermalright Macho Rev B PSU Corsair RM750x 750W 80+ Gold Nvidia Asus GTX1070 8GB STRIX Windows 10 D-OEM Home 1: Will i get a much better performence in gimp by adding 32 GB RAM? More smooth feeling? Better speed when adding effects? 20% 30% or....??? 2: Will these new RAM work with the ones i allready have? Pretty decent PC already. Make sure the Gimp tile cache (Edit>Preferences>System resources) is set to as much RAM as you can dedicate to it (around 12GB in your configuration, I would say), otherwise Gimp will use a disk file for layer data. |

haha, that's funny. My main rig is HP Compaq dc7800. RAM has been updated from 1GB to 5GB. Just because I happened to find compatible DDR2 sticks from a DELL machine. The only problem is that G'mic GUI takes 3-5 seconds to load and some plug-ins bit more time to finish. Oh I forgot, the lithium battery had to be replaced and this ain't running windows anymore

Hi lt03,
From the look of your specs. That's a very capable PC, which should be able to run GIMP along with G'MIC, as well as much more. You could however, benefit from a RAM upgrade/increase. To something like: DDR4 16GB 8x2, or 32GB 16x2. To make use of "Dual Channel". (Check with your motherboard manufacturer/manual, for maximum amount of RAM/"Dual Channel" config.) Otherwise, your system is still relevant today. I think you'll be pretty much golden for a while.  |

Yes, i have win 10. I have just ordered 16 gb x 2 RAM so i can get a total of 48 gb RAM.

Hej If your following and are intrested. Gimp seems to be a bit smoother to work with now, but maybe that is just me.
