GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 7
GIMP Experience: New User

Thank you so much for sharing that link to the latest and greatest GIMP.

I’ve now got it installed on an old laptop.

I’m trying to find the posts re: the link to the Heal Selection tool, what I need to install with it (python something? and how/where to install both on the hard drive?

Thank you.

Gimp 2.8 includes python. Heal selection is part of Resynthesizer, I used this for 2.8:

I visited both links and they both said the Registry is dead.

So, what's the live link to downloading the Heal Selection tool that I can then click on to install on the hard drive?

Registry is dead but the attachment in the first post isn't.
You copy the .exe and the .py plug-ins to the user plug-ins folder.

I downloaded that synthesizer zipped file as attached to that prior post (Thank you very much!) and unzipped it. There’s now a sub-folder named binaries 32-bit containing 3 .exe files; namely resynth, exe, resyntherizer.exe and resyntherizer-giu.exe.
Do I click on each of them to install the Heal Selection tool?
At that point, do I need to take any further steps to ensure the Heal Selection tool is working?
Thank you for all your help.

No, even they are .exe files you don't install them in the normal way.
Copy all, except resynth.exe from the binaries folder (one of them is the heal selection tool as you can see, plugin-heal-selection.py) to your user/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder. Forget the scripts-fu folder. Naturally if you have 64-bit Windows you copy the binaries and .py files from the "binaries_64bits" folder.
Relaunch Gimp, heal selection tool is under Filters/Enhance.

You do not need to run/click any of the .exe files.

These are the instructions below,
as written by Nidhogg.

Hi nidhogg,

user/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder - I searched my laptop hard drive under C:\Users but do not see gimp anywhere. I then looked under C:\Programs\Gimp and found a bin folder but no user folder.

I'm kind of stuck at this point.

Thank you for your help and understanding.

The location of the 2.8 Gimp User Folders,
within Windows.
Should be located in this directory.

C:\Users\You're User Name\.gimp-2.8

I'm revisiting Heal Selection and downloaded the re-synthesizer file as started here - viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6653 but I don't see any files under 32 or 64 except the resynthesizer.exe

Is Heal Selections still available for Gimp 2.8?

Do I find the files elsewhere?

Thank you!

Thanks for that link.

There are many sub-pages with all sorts of files, zips.

Cab you please share the exact link and/or file name I need to download?

I found this https://github.com/pixlsus/registry.gimp.org_static - is that's what's needed to download? I then unzip it and then copy which files to install Heal Selection?

I use GIMP only occasionally so I'm re-visiting on a different laptop now running W10 so I'm re-orienting how Heal Selection works and which flies are needed.

Thank you.

This one Works on GIMP 2.10

"resynthesizer.exe" and the ("resynthesizer-gui.exe" it will become obsolete once GIMP 3 gets here) plus the eight Python files.
1. plugin-heal-selection.py
2. plugin-heal-transparency.py
3. plugin-map-style.py
4. plugin-render-texture.py
5. plugin-resynth-enlarge.py
6. plugin-resynth-fill-pattern.py
7. plugin-resynth-sharpen.py
8. plugin-uncrop.py

How to Install Resynthesizer plugin in Windows
A folder must be created (name it Resynthesizer) with all the files in it and it must be installed in the usual place for GIMP plugins: C:\Users\YouruserName\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins.

Start GIMP and on your PC, find the GIMP 2.10 Profile directory: C:\Users\Pocholo\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins, place the Resynthesizer folder there.

1. With GIMP open, go to: Edit/Preferences and at the bottom click on Folder dropdown arrow to reveal all the folders directories.
2. Select the folder "plug-ins" and a new window will pop out.
3. Here, click on the little page marked on the image.
4. Click on the folders browser, find the GIMP folder plugins
Image

5. Find the Folder you just place there "Resynthesizer" and double click on it, then press OK.
Press OK on the preferences page, close GIMP restart GIMP again.
Image

6. You will find the plugins in the menu or menus:

a. Filters> Enhance (plugin-heal-selection.py, plugin-heal-transparency.py, plugin-resynth-enlarge.py, plugin-resynth-sharpen.py, plugin-uncrop.py.

b. Filters >Map > Style (plugin-map-style.py),

c. Filters> Render> Texture (plugin-render-texture.py),

d. Filters> Edit> Fill Pattern with seamless... (plugin-resynth-fill-pattern.py)

Good luck!

I clicked on adaptive-edge-32bits-64bits-gimp-2.8-win.zip and saved it to the GIMP plug-in folder, found it in there and clicked extract and it extracted. Closed GIMP, re-opened but no Heal Selection appeared in Filter>Enhance.

I'm just going to assume you moved or copied the binaries *.py and *.exe files into your local plugins folder for GIMP. If not, that would be the next step.

C:\Users\User Name\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\adaptive-edge-32bits-64bits-gimp-2.8-win\adaptive-edge-32bits-64bits-gimp-2.8-win\64bits I downloaded that .exe posted in the GIMP Chat and then I lied on that and it displayed extracting but I see no .py and the only .exe I see is the one I downloaded from GIMP Chat and clicked on.

Once you extract the folder you should see something similar to this:

Image

Then you have to choose between 32 or 64 bit binaries, depending on your OS. Then you have to move the files from "that" folder into your local GIMP plugins folder.
