Post subject:  Paintbrush doesnt work and none of the solutions on the internet work

GIMP Version: 2.10
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: New User

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
none

List any ERROR messages you received:
none

I try to use the paintbrush and nothing happens. Every other tool works perfectly the only problem is the paintbrush tool. It does absolutely nothing when I click. I don't get any error message and at the bottom of the screen it tells me I can "click to paint" but I click and nothing happens. I use the eraser and I can erase just fine. The image mode is RGB the paint mode is normal no matter what brush I use nothing happens. I reinstalled the program and absolutely nothing. I only have one layer and I can erase on it just fine. I have the whole image selected. But still nothing happens? It worked just fine yesterday but at some point it stopped for no reason. Can someone help me please? I can't use gimp anymore.

Check if the Opacity of the brush is on 0.

And if more than one layers are involved, make sure the layer is selected and not obstructed by another layer on top.

Make sure the layer is not locked and - a common mistake - that there are no selections active.

If the other paint tools (bucket-fill, gradient...) work, then for the paintbrush check the mode (should be "normal"), the opacity (should be 100%), the Dynamics (should be "Dynamics off") and the force (shouldn't be "0"). Also check that you are not using the "Clipboard" brush.

Otherwise post a screenshot of the tool options

The opacity is at 100. Is that good?

I said in my post that there is only one layer.

The opacity is at 100. I said in my post that the mode is normal. The force is at 50 but no matter what I change it to it doesn't work. I said in my post that no matter what brush I use it doesn't work.

For anyone making a reply please make sure to read the post first so I don't have to repeat myself.

Not surprising the brush does not show.

Hey rich2005, that is what I told him in the post#2, the brush opacity is in the 0 position. But I guess he didn't read it.

Yes, I should have done a better job of reading your post, however, it appears you need to set your
paintbrush "normal" layer mode to something higher than 0.
