Post subject:  Scaling
GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Mac OS
OS Version: 10.15.7
GIMP Experience: New User


I've created a new file that I want to be 1080 x 1080.

I've dropped an image into the file creating a new layer, but it does not automatically resize to fit the layer. It looks like it's zoomed into the image and I don't know how to scale the image so it fits inside my original 1080 x 1080 file. I tried to use the 'Scale' tool, but I have no idea how to scale the bottle only and it seems to shrink the entire square, not just the image inside it.

Please see the attached to see what I'm talking bout.

I'm an newbie, so I'm probably not doing something obvious - appreciate the help.

You. should be able to highlight the layer, go to layer, scale layer, and then adjust the size using that to the scale that you want.

You could try windows/dockable dialogs/navigation and use it to zoom.

If your original image is larger than the new image of 1080 x 1080, it will show being rather enlarged. You could also scale the original image to be close to the new image size and adjust the canvas size to suit.
